It’s all about capturing the wandering attentions of restless kids in the classroom. While it may seem like a simple task to some, others (mostly teachers) can vouch for the contradictory! If you want to drive home an important concept or ensure that the kids are enjoying their lessons and learning them well, fun kids games are your best bet. What makes this option more attractive is the fact that these games are free and really effective!
Learning should always be an interactive process. Modes of instruction that require little or no participation from the kids are slowly phasing out. It is a great idea, therefore, to introduce kids to online games as early as possible. There are many advantages that these free kids games offer. Here are a few:
If you want to avoid the hassle of getting kids access to computers to play online, there are some fun and easy offline games that you can play in the classroom. What is important, though, is to ensure that these free kids games involve all the kids and no one feels left out. Integrating lessons into these games in a way that doesn’t take away from the fun will guarantee that the learning never stops! Here are some great ideas to get you started!
1. Adverb Charades –
Divide the kids into two teams. One child from one team comes up to the front of the classroom and is given an adverb to enact by members of the opposite team. The child must enact the adverb for his own team to guess. Keep a time limit to make things more challenging! Fun and educational, isn’t it? Each child should get a turn to go up and display his/her acting prowess!
2. Buzz
Probably one of the oldest and most popular games, buzz is a fun math game that can be customized to suit kids of different age groups! Let the kids sit in a circle. If there are too many kids, divide them into two groups. Depending on the ages of the kids, pick a number – for example, 3. The first child starts by saying out loud ‘1’. The next child says ‘2’. The third child says ‘Buzz’. The number 3 and its multiples should not be said out loud. Instead, players must say ‘Buzz’ if the number they must call out is a multiple of the chosen number. This game will keep the kids alert and have them practice their times tables!
3. Geography Chain
This is another entertaining game that all the kids can be involved in. The first child starts off by naming any country. The next kid must name another country that starts with the last letter of the city named previously. For example, if the first child says Australia, the second child must name a country that starts with A (e.g. Argentina). Let the chain continue! If the little ones get stuck, help them out and teach them a new country name.
From English games to math games to social studies games, there are several fun and free kids games that help teachers make classroom learning a lot more fun. Use games like these to supplement textbook learning and watch the kids grow to master their subjects with ease!
